Bio: I was baptized when I was 10 years old, but I found my life when I lost it in Jesus Christ in 1973. My occupational calling for the past 35 years has been to support people with mental and physical challenges at New Hope in Carroll. In 1978 I married Molly (kind of stole her from the Methodists actually) and together we have raised a family of 5 children and led the worship and musical ministry at Carroll First. My ministry calling is to help others connect with God through worship, prayer and studying God’s Word. My favorite moment each week is when I stand together with my brothers and sisters in Christ and “with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. - (Rom 15:6 NKJV)Favorites:Quote: Christians are not called to be isolated from the world, but insulated from it- Pastor Rick WarrenBible Passage: "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. - (Jhn 15:5 NKJV)Food: Ice CreamBook: Historical fiction. Right now I’m reading ANGEL OF MERCY by Tracie Peterson and James Scott Bell. Leisure: Downloading new mp3 music for my ipod, watching old movies and eating popcorn with Molly (even if the movie is bad, I get a good nap out of it), browsing Webshots for new desktop wallpaper (Bill, don’t you think you have enough pictures?), and going with my sons to Cornerstone festival each summer. Football: Go Tigers, Go Hawks and Go Packers!
Bio: I am the devout Catholic infiltrating your church. My husband, Gary and I are both graduates of Kuemper High School and our four children are all attending Kuemper as well. After a short time in San Diego while Gary was in the Navy, we returned home because Carroll is the most welcoming caring Christian community to live in. My full time job is raising our four children and running to their various activities. Things are going pretty well with that job as the children are all still alive, so 10 years ago I decided to sell real estate and am currently a Realtor with Smart Moves Iowa Realty and have been at Carroll First for about a year.Favorites: Quote: “Breath In, Breath Out, Move on” --- Jimmy BuffettBible Passage: James 1:4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.Food: Steak, medium well Book: No Excuses by Kyle MaynardLeisure time activity: I am a member of the Kuemper School Board, and Director at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. When I am not at meetings, I enjoy attending the activities of my children from Girl Scouts and volleyball to wrestling and football. I am a Parrothead so we try to make our annual trip to Wisconsin for a Jimmy Buffett concert. Some of my favorite times are spent home with my family and being with our great friends and neighbors.

Bio: I was born on Mother’s Day 1970 and my parents dedicated me to the Lord on Father’s Day 1970. I grew up in the church and learned what it means to follow Christ at a young age. David and I have been married since the last century and are raising four amazing kids, Reagan, Allie, Hunter and Jack. My philosophy of ministry is that it encompasses everything I do. I consider myself privileged to minister along side of my favorite pastor and one of the greatest leaders I know. Favorites: Quote: Readers are leaders!Bible Passage: “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect.” 1 Corinthians 15:10Food: California Mexican Food, Popcorn (not microwave) and See’s CandyFavorite Book: Whatever I happen to be reading at the timeLeisure time activity: I enjoy reading books, eBooks, iBooks, blogs, newspapers, magazines, journal articles and more. I hardly ever get the remote control at my house (because the king of the castle doesn’t like to give it up) so I don’t watch much tv except news and some occasional reality tv. However, movies with period costumes reeI me in every time. I enjoy learning about leadership strengths and how diverse people can work together to accomplish great things. (Gallup’s StrengthsFinder 2.0)Ok and who am I kidding? I love some retail therapy, too!
Bio: Met Jesus when I was 18 years old and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Met the most incredibly beautiful woman in the world at church, married her and started a family back in the early 90’s. Being an Ordained Minister with the Assemblies of God has opened the door for me to pastor a Missional church in Carroll, Iowa. Currently I am completing a graduate degree in Global Leadership at Fuller Theological Seminary.Favorites: Quote: “Some people live their entire lives wondering if they made a difference, Marines don’t have that problem.” - Ronald ReaganBible Passage: Then Bathsheba bowed low with her face to the ground and, kneeling before the king, said, "May my lord King David live forever!" 1 Kings 1:31 ( I often replace the word “Bathsheba” with “Julie”!) Seriously though, I really connect with the heart of Paul when he said in 1 Corinthians 9:22 “To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.”Food: Anything Mexican (Except Menudo) Book: Anything authored by Henri Nouwen, I also enjoyed “Fire Evangelism” by Che AhnLeisure time activity: Hanging out with my wife, protecting my daughters from boys, playing sports with my sons, talking trash about my Oakland Raiders and Los Angeles Lakers, (don’t be a hater) I get a kick out of observing culture through stand-up comedians, tele-evangelists, the youth of today, and politicians.

We are a group of people who love Jesus Christ. We come from many different occupational, ethnical and economic backgrounds. We range in age from newborn to senior adults. We like to think of Carroll FIRST as a transdenominational church. By that we mean that we embrace people from a wide variety of church backgrounds. Our members include former Catholics, Baptists, Presbyterians and many other denominations. However officially we are a Sovereign Self Governing body of believers who are in a cooperative fellowship with the Assemblies of God. At “Carroll FIRST” we understand that our purpose for being is about “connecting people with God” and growing and disciplining the Kingdom of God. Using the word “FIRST” as an acrostic, we have defined our purpose as follows: Focused on God- Mark 13:20 Involved In Ministry- Ephesians 2:10Relational- Love, Live and Act as the Family of God-Eph. 1:5Spirit Formed, Spirit Filled and Spirit Flowing- Acts 1:8: Gal 5:16Tenacious about saving the lost, Matt: 28
Carroll First is lead by David and Julie Schaal. With over two decades of working as a team, the Schaal’s bring a very productive and progressive approach to ministry. They are the parents of four children that they are very proud of. Pastor David’s main area of focus is vision casting, preaching, teaching and running the day to day activities of our church. Pastor Julie’s main area of ministry is in organization and leadership development. The combination of both of these gifted leaders is what makes Carroll First a dynamic Church.
We are *Red Culture!Kids matter at Carroll First. Our children’s ministry is devoted to creating interactive learning experiences that awaken children’s desire for the presence and power of God in their lives.Your children will build great friendships and have the time of their life! Our highly qualified staff will make them feel right at home. Our curriculum teaches children about God’s Word and His unfailing love. They learn how to live for Christ in an age-appropriate way. Starting with infants and toddlers, Christ’s love for children is demonstrated by providing a safe and clean environment in which the children can sing and play. Two, three-and four year-olds begin learning Bible stories, as well as the concepts of friendship and helping by observing the actions of their teacher. Five-year-olds through fifth grade, expand their Bible knowledge during group programs that include relevant Bible teaching, creative drama, and high-energy music. Children continue to apply the Bible directly to their lives. They often participate in role-plays and “What would you do?” discussions in small groups. We provide full children’s ministry at our weekend services.

What We Believe ...ABOUT THE BIBLE | The Bible is God’s word to all men. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error. ABOUT GOD | God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. ABOUT JESUS CHRIST | Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of kings, and Lord of lords. ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT | The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ . We believe the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a special experience following salvation that empowers believers for witnessing and effective service, just as it did in New Testament times. ABOUT MAN | Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates man from God. ABOUT ETERNITY| Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. ABOUT SALVATION | Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith ABOUT PRAISE AND WORSHIP | We believe in worshipping the Lord in Spirit and in truth, with all of our hearts and with all of the means revealed in the Bible, showing our love with expressive demonstration of thanksgiving, joy, and praise. For a more in-depth look at all of our beliefs.
